What is SERP?
The search engine results page: the list of results shown after a search.
The plain definition
SERP stands for search engine results page. It is the page you see after you type a query. Today it can include ordinary web results, a map, a list of local businesses, images, videos, questions and answers, ads and sometimes an AI-written summary.
An example
Search for “hair salon” on a phone and the results page may start with ads, then a map with three salons, then a list of questions, and only then ordinary web pages. Where you appear depends on which parts of the page your business can show up in.
Why it matters for a local business
Because the layout changes with every search, there is no single “position” that stays the same for everyone. Results also differ by place and by person. Look at the real results page for your main searches from your customers’ area, and see which parts you can be in.
