What is local pack?

The map and short list of businesses that Google shows for searches with local intent.

The plain definition

The local pack is the block of results that shows a map and a short list of nearby businesses, with ratings, hours and buttons to call or get directions. Google shows it when it decides that a search has local intent, such as “electrician near me”.

An example

A customer searches “pizza delivery” on a phone. Above the ordinary web results sits a map with three restaurants, each with stars and a phone icon. Many people choose from this list without ever visiting a website.

Why it matters for a local business

Showing in the local pack depends mostly on three things: how relevant your profile is to the search, how close you are to the searcher and how well known your business appears to be online. A complete profile, steady reviews and consistent listings all support it. Nobody can promise a particular spot.
