What is click-through rate (CTR)?
The share of people who see your result in search and click it. A clear title and description raise it.
The plain definition
Click-through rate, or CTR, is the number of clicks a search result gets divided by the number of times it was shown. If your page appears 100 times and 5 people click it, the click-through rate is 5 percent. You can see it for your own pages in Google Search Console.
An example
Two businesses both appear for “emergency plumber”. One has the title “Home” and no useful description. The other shows “24-hour emergency plumber in Springfield: call now” with a short line about response times. The second result will usually earn more clicks from the same number of searches.
Why it matters for a local business
You do not control where you show, but you do control how you look when you do. Writing a clear title and meta description for each important page is cheap, and it turns searches you already earn into visits and calls. Review the pages with many views and few clicks first.
