What is internal link?

A link from one page of your site to another page of the same site.

The plain definition

An internal link points from one page on your website to another page on the same website. Your menu, footer, buttons and the links inside your text are all internal links. They help visitors move around, and they help search engines find pages and understand how your content fits together.

An example

Your “Water Heater Repair” page mentions that you also install new tanks. The words “water heater installation” link to that service page. A visitor can reach it in one click, and a search engine learns that the two pages are related.

Why it matters for a local business

Pages with no internal links can be hard for search engines to find, and important pages should be reachable within a few clicks from your home page. Use clear anchor text, link from related pages, and make sure every page is linked from somewhere sensible.
